Staff

All our therapists are accredited CBT therapists with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP), the lead organisation for CBT in the UK.  Most are also formally accredited supervisors and four are accredited CBT Trainers.  Staff on placement are also supervised by an accredited CBT therapist, ensuring that everyone is trained to a high standard and has their work closely supervised.

Professor David Veale

David Veale6

David is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Professor in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, King’s College London.  He his based at both the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma and the Anxiety Disorders Residential Unit at the Bethlem Royal since 2005. 

He was a member of the group revising the diagnostic guidelines for ICD11 for Obsessive Compulsive and Related Disorders for the World Health Organisation. He was a member of the group that wrote the NICE guidelines on OCD and BDD in 2006 and chaired the NICE Evidence Update on OCD in 2013. He is a Honorary Fellow and Past President of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and British Psychological Society and is a current Trustee of the patient charities OCD Action and the BDD Foundation. Idit is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and is the Clinical Lead for  the Psychological Trauma Outreach, Screen and Support Service for London Terrorist Incidents commissioned by NHSE.  Idit is SLaM’s Trust Training Coordinator for placements for Doctorate trainees in Clinical Psychology. She is the curriculum coordinator for training on supervision for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, IoPPN. Dr Melanie Abas

Melanie Abas2

Melanie is an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Reader in Global Mental Health, and Deputy Director of King's Health Partners/London School of Hygiene Centre for Global Mental Health.  Melanie's special interests include mental health in vulnerable migrants and cross-cultural therapies for anxiety and depression.  Her research is on CBT Interventions for depression and for adherence to antiretroviral therapy in the Southern African region, and on capacity building in mental health in low-income countries.  In November 2015 Melanie won a King's Award for Most Significant Contribution to International Collaboration and in 2014 Melanie was named in the top 100 women leaders in global health through Twitter.
