Health Psychology Research Group

Health-Psych-research-webStaff and students within the Health Psychology section are engaged in the following key areas of research:

  • Fundamental research to establish the psychosocial and neurological processes underlying adaptation to long term conditions and the experience of symptoms.
  • Translational research testing the efficacy and effectiveness of theory-based psychological interventions for people with Long Term Conditions.
  • Development and evaluation of innovative methods of supporting self-management of health, symptoms, mood, and adherence including telecare, stepped care and web based interventions.
  • Treatment development work focused specifically on the psychological flexibility model, contextual behavioural science, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for physical health problems, particularly chronic pain.
  • Education and training for health professionals and psychologists in the use of psychological interventions. 
  • Sexual orientation and mental health.
