Information for practitioners

Practice learning plays a vital role in the education of pre-registration nurses and midwives. Fifty percent of the students' learning takes place within the practice setting, healthcare professionals and university staff involved are key to the effective preparation of our future nurses and midwives.

Everyone involved in practice learning plays a key role in helping our students to take the theory they learn in university and apply it to patient care. Involvement in practice learning offers you the opportunity to pass on your own knowledge and skills to your student and to learn from them, about the latest research and changes in best practice.

We recognise that supporting and assessing students in practice happens alongside the delivery of patient care and that managing these often-competing demands can be incredibly challenging.

The resources provided below are intended to support you in your practice learning role.
