Dr Máirtín McDermott
Máirtín joined King's College London in 2017 as a Lecturer working with the Nicotine Research Group (NRG) in the Addictions department. He completed his PhD in Health Psychology at King’ College London, designing and evaluating a cognitive stop smoking intervention delivered in primary care. Following this, Máirtín has held positions both in the UK (University College London, King’s College London) and Australia (University of Wollongong, Australian Catholic University).
Máirtín’s research has focused on three main areas: developing and evaluating stop smoking interventions; identifying the predictors of health behaviours; and identifying the best methods to facilitate health behaviour change. He has a particular interest in behavioural theory, and his most recent work has involved conducting systematic reviews to evaluate the validity of the theories used to encourage healthier lifestyle behaviours.
