Our mission

 

King’s Legal Clinic has two key aims: to enhance student learning and professional development, and to promote social and environmental justice.

These aims are achieved through five objectives:

  1. To provide students with opportunities to work on live-client cases, developing their legal knowledge, practical skills and understanding of law in context.

  2. To foster students’ professional, ethical and reflective practice, including trauma-informed practice approaches, responsible use of AI, and a commitment to access to justice.

  3. To provide free, high-quality legal advice and assistance to members of the public, particularly those who face barriers to accessing legal support.

  4. To work in partnership with community organisations and partners across disciplines on research, policy and advocacy initiatives addressing access to social and environmental justice challenges

  5. To develop innovative approaches to clinical legal education, including interdisciplinary collaboration, AI and digital literacy, and a sustainable, climate-conscious curriculum.

Climate Justice Pledge

The Clinic recognises that climate change is one of the most significant social justice issues we face. Its impacts will be felt most by the poorest and most vulnerable. As a student law clinic with a commitment to social justice, we commit to raising awareness of the issue of climate change in our teaching, research and activism; and to finding ways to support law students to contribute to the struggle for climate justice.
