Research & Impact

Research in our Faculty

Our research community leads on excellent and impactful research which aims to transform health and care. 95% of our research output was judged ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ by the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

Local and global communities benefit from the new knowledge we create which spans the fields of nursing, midwifery and palliative care. Through interdisciplinary and applied research, our research community develops and improves sustainable services and interventions across health and care.

By tackling the challenges of tomorrow and today, our research takes account of the whole person in their context, builds research capacity and future leaders, and enhances education.

Our research covers four main themes:

Research with impact

Our world-leading research impacts and influences healthcare experiences and outcomes for patients, wherever they are cared for. We build knowledge, lead policy and practice and improve outcomes for patients and those important to them.

Our academics work with other universities, industry, healthcare providers and policy makers both locally and globally, to ensure that our research is relevant and influence policy and government on nursing, midwifery and palliative care.
