Wellness Support

The Active Wellness Scheme is an initiative to help anyone within the King’s community who has low physical or mental wellbeing, with holistic wellness support to improve their wellbeing and thrive in their day-to-day activities.

The Active Wellness Scheme aims to provide participants with the tools and resources that will empower them to make sustainable lifestyle changes that will allow them to unlock their full potential.   

Physical activity has been proven to have a profound positive effect on general wellbeing and quality of life. Whether you have struggled with low mood, poor sleep and concentration, anxiety, stress or depression, have a short-term illness, or a chronic physical health problem, we aim to show you how to begin changing your lifestyle for the better.  

While being on the programme, participants will have access to the following:  

  • Up to six 1-2-1 sessions (Tier 1) or four group sessions (Tier 2) led by one of our Health & Fitness Coaches 
  • Free access to King’s Sport & Wellness Gyms, group fitness classes and BeActive
  • Nutritional advice 
  • Mindfulness and other holistic support 
  • Wellbeing resources
  • Exclusive discounts (upon completing the programme). 
  • The programme includes two main routes as outlined below. 


The coaches are really knowledgeable and help you work towards realistic goals- no matter how fit you are. It's really motivating to be able to clearly see how far you've come and the new things you've achieved.

1-2-1 Coaching (Online & In-person)

This route is for those who require more specialist 1-2-1 support and are paired with a Health & Fitness coach for six weeks. Our Health & Fitness coaches will provide you with simple, effective and personalised physical activity programmes and holistic wellbeing support. 

The programme can be delivered both in-person at one of our gym sites or online (via Microsoft Teams) and may include gym programmes and/or home workouts, group exercise classes and/or online classes, step count goals, and much more!  
The coaches can also provide support and advice on other lifestyle factors such as diet, sleep and managing stress through physical activity.  

Group Sessions

This route includes a four-week course, centred around healthy habits that coach participants to understand the importance of exercise, sleep, nutrition and routine. The sessions will be delivered to groups of 6-8 people. Research has shown that social identities that form in groups, seem to be influential in shaping attitude toward and affiliation with others and these affiliations represent a social glue that retains involvement in groups. 

These sessions will run each week and discuss the following themes: 

  • Week 1: The benefits of being active, overcoming barriers and goal setting 
  • Week 2: Basic principles of good nutrition 
  • Week 3: The importance of sleep and tips for a healthy sleep routine.
  • Week 4: An introduction to mindfulness.

Active Wellness Scheme has provided me with a safe space to learn and be vulnerable in the process. I have gained valuable knowledge about physical fitness that I have successfully been able to use to improve and manage my mental health.

FAQs and Details About the Service

The registration process for 1-2-1 online coaching can be done directly as a self-referral using the sign-up form on this page, or it can be done indirectly via a King’s member of staff getting in touch with us.

You will receive an e-mail from the Active Wellness Scheme once we have reviewed your form.

Regular physical activity has been scientifically proven to alleviate symptoms of numerous physical and mental health conditions. In joining the scheme, you will be aided by a qualified Health & Fitness Coach to help you achieve realistic physical activity goals.

Furthermore, participation on the Active Wellness Scheme comes with a free 6-week King’s Sport gym membership to cover the duration of the programme and you will also be offered a discounted 3-month upon completion of the scheme.

Once you have joined the scheme, you will be assigned to a Health & Fitness Coach to work with on a 1-2-1 basis for six weeks (this may be extended to an extra two weeks in special circumstances). You will be offered six coaching sessions with your assigned Coach.

The sessions delivered either in-person or online, will last around one hour and may include setting physical activity goals, designing a weekly activity plan specific to you, and advice on other lifestyle factors.
