Historically, King’s has a Christian foundation in the Anglican tradition. Today, our Chaplaincy continues our spiritual roots by providing pastoral support to our staff and students of all faiths and none, reflecting the diverse nature of our university.
Our Dean and Chaplains
Our Dean is Reverend Dr Ellen Clark-King, who is responsible for overseeing the spiritual development and welfare for all students and staff. She is an ordained Anglican priest.
Ellen also oversees the delivery of our Associate of King’s College London programme and promotes equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the University.
We also have a team of chaplains who are religious or spiritual guides or leaders and can be lay people or ordained by a religious institution, who work outside a place of worship. At King’s, our Chaplains come from many different faith traditions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism. Chaplains are available to talk to anyone at King’s, and they provide pastoral support to all staff and students, of all faiths and none.
All of our Chaplains and their roles are listed below. They often work with us one or two days a week.
From this month, we are also joined by a new Jewish Chaplain, Rabbi Danny Newman, replacing our outgoing Jewish Chaplain, Rabbi Harrie Cedar. He will also work with King’s as an Antisemitism Advisor.
Rabbi Danny brings almost three decades of experience in Jewish student leadership, pastoral care, community building and helping people navigate complex questions.
We are also looking forward to welcoming a new Muslim Chaplain later this academic year, who will work with us an anti-Islamophobia Advisor.
How Chaplains support our community
Our Chaplains offer confidential support to anyone in the King’s community – staff and students – who is looking for guidance through life’s challenges or information relating to philosophical questions. The Chaplaincy is also aligned with other support services across the university.
The Chaplaincy holds events throughout the year that are open to all at King’s, including talks, lunches and book clubs.
The team also hold regular services in the Chapels on Guy’s and Strand Campuses, as well as online and in their offices.
The Chaplaincy sends out a weekly mailing list during term time detailing all their events on offer. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, email chaplaincy@kcl.ac.uk.
How can I get in touch with a Chaplain?
If you’d like to speak with a particular Chaplain, you can email them directly. Their email address will be listed on their people profile. You can also email the Chaplaincy team: chaplaincy@kcl.ac.uk.
Although our Chapels are on the Strand and Guy’s Campuses, the Chaplaincy has offices and places to pray on every campus.
The Chaplaincies on each campus are available for all staff and students to just walk in and pour yourself a (free!) cup of tea or coffee and take some time out. You are welcome to spend time on your own in the Chaplaincy, or to engage in conversation with others or participate in scheduled events that take place there.
You can find more about where these are located on the Chaplaincy webpage.
