King’s Centre for Lung Health

The King’s Centre for Lung Health (KCLH) brings together expertise across the Respiratory Sciences (e.g. Biology, Immunology, Infection, Pharmacology, Physiology, Imaging, and Clinical Trials) across the interface of Lung Disease (some examples include Asthma, COPD, ILD). We strive to be inclusive, with a vision to eliminate lung disease by prevention, early diagnosis and better treatments.

We work together across groups, across departments and across sites to lead as a world class centre of Respiratory excellence. We are leading the field in understanding mechanisms of disease, molecular diagnostics and novel treatments of lung diseases.

Fear Lab

The Fear Lab is currently investigating molecular mechanisms regulating Human B cell germinal centre activities.

Hawrylowicz Group

This group addresses the importance of vitamin D sufficiency for respiratory health throughout the life course and the immune mechanisms that underpin this

Martinez-Nunez Group

We investigate how mRNA translation is regulated during inflammation and infection responses.

Respiratory Epigenetics

The objective of the research is to identify disease-specific epigenetic landscapes, the factors that drive reorganization, the enzymes that they utilize to achieve these functions and the transcriptional consequences of reorganization.

Santis Group

We study the role of Coxsackie B virus and Adenovirus receptor (CAR) in airway inflammation and cancer. We also evaluate EGFR oligomerisation in lung cancer cells as a biomarker for disease severity and response to treatment.

Santos Group

Schurich Group

The Schurich Lab studies the function of human T cells, with a focus on T cell metabolism to understand how T cells fuel their extraordinary effector capacity.

Till Group

Working on development of novel forms of immunotherapy to treat allergic diseases.

Warnatsch Group

The Warnatsch group studies the localisation and effects of neutrophil reactive oxygen species (ROS) during respiratory virus infections.

Woszczek Group

Our research focuses around role of lipid mediators in pathomechanisms of chronic inflammatory diseases such as asthma, rhinosinusitis and allergy. Using newly developed molecular and cellular biology methods we characterise functions and signalling of G-protein coupled receptors for eicosanoids (leukotrienes, prostaglandins) and sphingolipids (sphingosine-1-phosphate) and their role in immune response.
