'Behavioural approaches to implementation research: Developing an evidence base to improve the quality of health care'

Investigations of health provision show substantial and consistent gaps between the care that people should recieve and the care they actually recieve. Hence, supporting behaviour change amonth healthcare professionals is key to improving health care. There is a growing interest by governments and funders in research that is informed by methods and models of behaviour change. Such research is inherently problem-driven, collaborative and multi-disciplinary.
This presentation illustrates the impact, and challenges, of applying psychological theory and methods in implementation research, using examples of UK-based and multi-national studies. There is also potential for enriching psychological methods and behavioural theories through collaborations with clinical and methodological disciplines. Developing partnerships with healthcare providers, at the system level, strengthens the scale and impact of implementation research.
