Dr Jigar Jogia wins the Samuel Gershon Award for Bipolar Disorder

Dr. Jigar Jogia, a postdoctoral fellow in the section of neurobiology of psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King’s College London was presented with the Samuel Gershon Award at the 9th international conference on Bipolar Disorder held in Pittsburgh, USA. The Samuel Gershon Award is presented by the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) to young researchers in recognition of the vital role of developing the next generation of leaders in the field of Bipolar Disorder. 

Dr. Jogia won the award for his work on the functional brain abnormalities associated with reward and working memory processing in Bipolar Disorder. Dr Jogia said: ‘The Samuel Gershon Award is a significant landmark in my career. I feel very privileged and honoured that my academic work has received international attention and recognition.’

Dr. Jogia’s post-doctoral research focuses on employing advanced neuroimaging and neuroinformatics techniques for the development of diagnostic tools to enhance the biological validity of Bipolar Disorder and allow prediction of disease expression in high risk individuals.

Dr. Sophia Frangou, who heads the section of Neurobiology of Psychosis, said: 'It is very rewarding to see the Institute of Psychiatry recognised for our work in Bipolar Disorder.'  

ISBD is an international collaborative of individuals dedicated to finding ways to improve the lives of those with bipolar disorder through mutual sharing of information, research, and education. In addition to individual members, the ISBD has a global chapter network of like minded organisations formed to meet the challenges of treating bipolar disorder in their country and/ or region.
