IoP teaching awards announced

Tuesday 12 July 2011

The Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) would like to express congratulations to Gilly Wiscarson, Course Leader for the MSc Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology, who won the IoP Teaching Excellence Award for 2011.

The Awards were introduced by King’s in 2002 to provide students with an opportunity to recognise teaching staff, with an award being given each year to a member of staff from each School.  Gilly will receive her award at the College's graduation ceremony later this month.

Gilly Wiscarson has a background in management consultancy, combining business strategy training and business psychology, and specialises in helping teams within organisations to deal with stress resulting from multiple change. Her experience has helped her to design the Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology MSc programme in a way that applies important theories to real life organisational situations.

Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Dean for Education at the IoP, said: 'Gilly's clear dedication to her students and passion for teaching and learning is very much appreciated by the students themselves and by the IoP.  The IoP is strongly committed to developing its education provision and ensuring that students receive a very high quality experience.   I am delighted that she has received this award, which is very well deserved.'

The Organisational Psychiatry and Psychology MSc programme is one of the first of its kind in the UK and Europe and is designed for people wishing to gain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of psychology and psychiatry as applied to the workplace. Students come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including HR managers, organisational consultants, psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses, occupational health professionals and psychology graduates wishing to enter these occupations.
