Contentious Questions
About Contentious Questions
All undergraduate and postgraduate students at The Dickson Poon School of Law are invited to join us and debate legal cases that raise provocative and difficult questions with Lord Judge, the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.
This is a great opportunity to think about how the law approaches cases which pose real dilemmas, and to learn from a former head of the judiciary who has written judgments in complex cases. Real legal cases are often not straightforward and judges have to consider all sorts of issues in applying the law.
Details of the cases for these seminars can be found below. Students are encouraged to think about the case in advance of the seminar, and come prepared to discuss the case and the questions it raises. Places are limited so please remember to register via the Eventbrite links below to avoid disppointment.
Lord Judge is a Dickson Poon Distinguished Visitor at The Dickson Poon School of Law, having joined the School in October 2013. He has served as a High Court Judge, Lord Justice of Appeal, and was the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and Head of the Judiciary of England and Wales from 2008-2013. Prior to becoming a judge he practised as a barrister; he was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) in 1963 and appointed as Queen's Counsel in 1979. Lord Judge is also the current Chief Surveillance Commissioner and a Bencher of Middle Temple.
Upcoming events will be circulated via the Student Events Newsletter.
